Matthew Pezzulich (he/him/his) is a queer director, designer, and collaborator. With a clear focus on the intersection of art, history, and technology, his work explores themes such as grief, family, and queer memory. He believes in leading with equality and equity, compassion and collaboration. Matthew's design background allows him to equally prioritize all elements of production: from text, to movement, to design, to culture, dramaturgy, and beyond. Matthew is an Associate Member of SDC.

Matthew has directed at Teatro Latea, The Tank, and Adelphi University. His recent production work includes production management work at Lincoln Center Theater, stage management positions at Lincoln Center Theatre, Clubbed Thumb, New York Theatre Workshop, and St. Ann’s Warehouse, design credits for Burning Coal Theatre Company and Group.BR, and technical positions at Lincoln Center Theatre and MCC.

Matthew is a Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Stage Directors and Choreographers Directing Initiative 2021 Fellow, having been awarded the Fellowship for his work at Region 2 of KCACTF. He later was accepted and participated in The Kennedy Center Directing Intensive in their first year back in-person the following year.

Matthew graduated summa cum laude with a B.F.A. in Theatre Arts: Design/Technology in the Honors College at Adelphi University. During his time at Adelphi, Matthew served as a designer or assistant on six department productions, an assistant director on two departmental productions, and mounted his thesis production of Anne Carson’s 2015 translation of ANTIGONE as a part of the Adelphi University’s 2021-2022 Season. The production was awarded four Certificates of Merit from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (Direction, Choreography, Design, and Performance) and the Ruth St. Dennis Prize for Best Work in Fine or Performing Arts from The Adelphi University Honors College.
